The European Master’s Degree in Advanced Solid Mechanics | Erasmus Mundus Scholarship

The European Master’s Degree in Advanced Solid Mechanics, University de Lille, France.

There are 2 calls for applications per year:

– the first one is for applicants who wish to apply for the Erasmus Mundus scholarship;
– the second one is for applicants who wish to apply as self-funded students.

Both scholarship and self-funded applicants have to go through the same application process!

FIRST CALL

By applying to the STRAINS Master programme during the first call, you automatically apply for an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) scholarship.

By applying to the STRAINS Master programme during the second call, you apply as a self-funded student.

WHO CAN APPLY?

Applicants from all over the world can apply to the programme.

Anyone can apply for the STRAINS programme as long as they meet the requirements listed below:

All applicants must hold a Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or equivalent with a strong background in Mechanics, Physics and Mathematics.
All applicants are required to have a good level of proficiency in English (at least a B2 level, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for languages).

APPLICATION PROCESS

STEP 1: ONLINE APPLICATION

To apply for STRAINS, you need to complete the application form and upload all of the supporting documents on our APPLICATION PLATFORM.

The online application is divided into different steps. Each step can be saved after full completion. All registration steps can be modified prior to final submission of the application (final step).
The first step (personal information) is definitively validated after submission. An account will be created for you to be able to resume this application later. Your account details will be sent to you by email to the address you provided (check your spam box if necessary). Please, keep your details (username and password) as you will need them to resume your application before final submission.

All of the supporting documents need to be submitted in a PDF format.
Your application must be in English, including the application form and all of the required documents. If your documents are not in English, an official translation must be provided.
You will have to provide details of 2 referees who agreed to provide you with letters of recommendation. Note that they will be invited by e-mail to upload their letters online before the application deadline. Candidates are therefore required to indicate an official institution email address. Letters of recommendation uploaded by applicants directly may not be taken into account.
Do not wait until the last minute to apply online (take into consideration that the application takes time and last-minute applications may cause a saturated application platform).

After submission of your application, you will receive an automatic acknowledgement of receipt by e-mail (check your spam box if necessary).

DISCLAIMER:
– Incomplete and/or applications with invalid documents will not be considered by the consortium.
– Applications submitted and/or completed after the deadline of the related call will not be considered by the consortium.
– If an applicant submits more than one application, only the most recent one will be considered.

STEP 2: INTERVIEW OF SHORT-LISTED APPLICANTS

Once all of the application files have been evaluated, the short-listed applicants will be invited to an online interview.

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS

If you meet all requirements and want to apply to STRAINS, the following list of documents will have to be attached to the application in a PDF format:

Two recommendation letters uploaded by your referees (PDF format)
Certified copy of your diploma(s) / degree(s) or enrolment certificate from your university (for students in their last year of Bachelor’s degree) – with an English translation if applicable
Certified copy of transcript(s) of records for your whole degree and a grading scale – with an English translation if applicable
If your ranking doesn’t appear on the transcript of records, it is also highly recommended to provide a letter of your university attesting your ranking in the class
Copy of official language certificate attesting language skills in English (at least B2 level). All applicants, except native English speakers, must provide recent evidence of their proficiency in English through one of the following documents:
- TOEFL: minimum score: 570 points (paper) or 85 points (internet)
- IELTS: minimum score: 6.5
- Cambridge English First (FCE) – Grade A or B.
- Certificate of a University Language Centre testifying that the student masters the necessary knowledge of English to function academically (specify CEF-level / minimum CEF-level B2)
Proof of current and exact place of residence
Valid passport (or valid ID card for European applicants)
CV (PDF format, not necessarily Europass)
Any other document you consider relevant for the application

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Proof of residence

The purpose of the proof of residence is to prove your current place of residence, i.e your current personal address. Therefore, your name and your own address need to appear on the document as well as the date of issuance of the document.

Either one of the document below can be considered:

Residence certificate stating your personal address, issued in accordance with your municipality normal registration rules.
Certificate from your current place of work, study or training issued by the employer or institution in question stating your personal address.

Please note that the document must have been issued within 12 months before the application deadline. If it isn’t, your document won’t be considered valid.

DISCLAMER : A “work certificate” (i.e. a document that only attests that you have working/have worked for a specific company and where only the company’s address appears) cannot be accepted since your current personal postal address is needed. The same principle is applied for birth certificate, passport and driving licence. None of them will be accepted since we have no way of knowing if the address indicated on the document is still your address to this day.

Use of Personal Data Provided in Online Applications

The European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA), in the context of managing the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees, collects and processes the personal data of some of the candidates. In particular, certain data of the scholarship holders (students and scholars), non-scholarship holders and reserve list candidates is shared with the Agency through the EACEA Mobility Tool and treated according to the following privacy statement.
